Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive treatment approach for people whose emotions can create problems in their lives (and possibly in the lives of people around them). These emotions may be overwhelming, debilitating and sometimes expressed in a destructive ways such as anger, depression, or anxiety. Sometimes one can attempt to avoid such feelings by substance abuse, attempting suicide, eating disorders, or impulsive actions.

DBT clients are taught skillful ways to regulate/manage their emotions, deal with the pain of distressing situations in their lives  and improve relationships with the people around them. Colleen teaches these skills in a caring compassionate way while addressing the specific needs of her clients ranging from emotional sensitivity and wounded relationships to distressing experiences.  DBT offers powerful and pragmatic methods to create a life with a sense of calm, control, and balance.

Key Components to DBT:

Increasing Emotional Regulation skills

Increasing Interpersonal Relationship skills

Increasing your ability to tolerate stress, pain and discomfort

Increasing Mindfulness
